Are Fast Weight-Loss Diets Unhealthy?
Sunday, June 7th, 2009If you want to lose weight safely, you first have to understand that it is something that you are going to have to commit to and stick with. Some weight-loss plans say that they will help you lose your pounds fast but they often do not give you the longevity that you desire, and after a short period of time, those pounds tend to come rolling back in.
You will lose weight if the calories you consume are less than the calories you’re burning-plain and simple. On the other hand, many diets with promises of fast weight loss will cause you to lose your muscles mass as well as your fat-essentially working backwards. So if you are losing anything above two pounds a week, in all likelihood you are burning more muscle and water then actual fat and you are not losing weight safely.
These so-called “fast weight-loss diets” will drag your metabolism down. This causes your body to set itself into a starvation mode. By losing too much weight, too fast, your body lowers your metabolic weight in order to save as much energy as possible, thereby slowing down the fat-burning process. When your body is in need of calories, the first thing it turns to as a backup plan is your muscles, so when your fast weight-loss diet begins to bring you to your starvation mode, it will literally eat you alive. This means you’re going to lose muscles that you may have gained from working out and you will become more tired and sluggish.
This is a key reason as to why many dieters who participate in fast weight-loss diets tend to gain their weight right back, plus some. If you want to lose weight safely and consistently, you will have to do it slowly. You have to be able to have the proper diet, correct exercise program, and willpower to do so.
