People are aware of the benefits of green tea. Many of them choose not to drink it though because it has caffein. They have the option to go with the decaf green tea but they prefer not to because of its lack of beneficial compounds. However that isn’t true. The EGCG was found in the same amount for both kinds of tea.

Probably if we all have a clear understanding on how decaf green tea differs from regular green tea, then going for de decaf will definitely be an option. Let’s see in the following how it works!

For extracting the caffein from green tea, two methods are used. The first one is a result of a natural process that uses water and carbon dioxide. Second method is based on ethyl acetate and so 30% of the polyphenols are retained. You can think of the little black dots on the bottom of your cup when drinking green tea. Following this two methods, gives us the knowledge to look for the right one on the label when buying our decaf green tea.

The bitterness in green tea is considered to give the authentic taste. Some people just can’t enjoy a cup of green tea without that taste. Only that the 15mg – 30mg of caffeine contained by a cup of tea is enough to stimulate the central nervous system. Therefor many people choose not to enjoy the bitterness and go for the decaf green tea.

Going back to the small black dots on the bottom of your cup, I can say that you can make your own decaf green tea. Just steep for 45 seconds your tea or tea bag in hot water and then poor of the liquid. Repeat this process once more and just after that you can make your tea the way you used to do it. The first infusion gets rid of 80% of the caffeine and after the second one it leaves you just a very small amount.

You can now enjoy the benefits of green tea without worrying about the caffeine contained. Just go for the decaf green tea and that’s it!

In the end decaf green tea has the same benefits as regular one, so just enjoy.
